Pier Giacomo Castiglioni

Pier Giacomo Castiglioni was an Italian designer best known for his significant contribution to modern design. He was born on November 19, 1913 in Milan and was the son of the famous architect and designer, Giannino Castiglioni. Pier Giacomo grew up in a creative atmosphere and is one third of the legendary Castiglioni brothers.

Castiglioni began his career as an architect and later became a renowned designer in industrial design. He was part of the revolutionary design scene in Milan in the 1950s and 1960s, working alongside his younger brother, Achille Castiglioni, and his older brother, Luigi Caccia Dominioni. Together they became known as the 'trinity' of Italian design.

Pier Giacomo Castiglioni was known for his innovative approach to design and his ability to combine functionality with aesthetics. His designs were often simple, but at the same time had a unique and playful character. He experimented with different materials and techniques to create unique and functional products. One of Castiglioni's most famous designs is the Arco floor lamp, which he created in 1962 together with his brother Achille. The Arco lamp is known for its curved marble base and its long, curved arm that supports the lampshade. This iconic lamp has become a symbol of modern design and can be found in many homes, offices and public spaces around the world.
