Semi pendant light - Gubi

The pendant light is a unique light with a distinctive lampshade in a wide, upwardly tapered shape. The enamelled metal lampshade allows the light to shine directly downwards, ideal above the dining table or kitchen table, where good working light is needed. With its unique and timeless design and choice of colours and sizes, the light is versatile and perfect for both private and public spaces.

Semi was designed in 1968 as a product of the creative partnership between Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. It was created as a reaction against the soft, organic forms that dominated Denmark at the time, known as the cosy era. Instead, Bonderup and Thorup wanted to create a lamp with sharp, clean lines and a geometric shape. Their design was submitted to a competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, where it won first place.

In the 1980s, the pendant lamp achieved great success, becoming the best-selling Danish design of the time and gaining worldwide recognition and iconic status.
