PH 80 floor lamp, white/chrome/opal, switch - Louis Poulsen

The PH 80 floor lamp On/Off Switch is a member of the 3-lampshade family, which today comprises an impressive collection of lights, including several for outdoor use. Poul Henningsen (PH) designed the 3-lampshade system back in 1925-1926, when he collaborated with Louis Poulsen to design the first lights for an exhibition in Paris. Throughout his life, Poul Henningsen strove to create glare-free light that directed light where it was needed and created soft shadows. He designed not just one light, but an entire system, of which around a thousand different models have been produced over the years.
The floor lamp emits a beautiful, diffused light. Most of the light is directed downwards by the acrylic shades, but they also help to spread the light horizontally and upwards. The design of the lampshade is based on a logarithmic spiral, with the focal point of the light source at the centre of the spiral.
PH lamp numbers usually refer to the shade size, but this is not the case with the PH 80. The light was produced after Poul Henningsen's death in 1974 to mark his 80th birthday, hence the name PH 80.
The PH 80 is available in three different models, for which there are also various replacement parts, so that the lamp can be renewed again and again.
