The PH 5 was designed by Poul Henningsen (PH) in 1958. The PH 5 was introduced as a novelty, and no one could have predicted that it would one day become synonymous with the PH lamp. Regardless of how the light is installed and which light source is used, the PH 5 is completely glare-free. The light was given the name PH 5 because of the diameter of the main shade, which is 50 cm. Poul Henningsen wanted to improve the colour rendering of the light source in the PH 5 and therefore added small red and blue lampshades to achieve colour supplementation in the part of the spectrum where the eye is least sensitive - red and blue - and thus to attenuate the light in the middle range - yellow-green - where the eye is most sensitive. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of PH 5 in 2008, PH50 was introduced - a version in 5 new high-gloss colours.
The PH5 Classic pendant light is a designer light developed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in 1958. The ultimate glare-free light with a unique shade system. The pendant light was developed out of pure, unadulterated anger at the countless bulbs in a variety of sizes and designed to serve a wide range of light sources.
The PH 5 pendant light is based on the principle of a reflective multi-shade system based on a logarithmic spiral, with the focal point of the light source at the centre of the spiral, emitting a diffuse and glare-free light.
This variant is part of Louis Poulsen's new colour collection for 2022.
