Air, humidity, temperature and environmental factors all influence the development of the surface. The copper may begin to darken visibly after as little as 14 days.

The surface also changes naturally through touch, gradually developing its own unique finish. If you wish to speed up the oxidation process, you can store the lampshade outdoors in the shade for a few days, ensuring it is protected.
