The 323 XL pendant light from Lampe Gras combines the iconic design language of this French design classic with a striking raw copper lampshade. The origins of the Lampe Gras collection date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first well-thought-out designs. Originally conceived for offices and industrial spaces, the range was characterised by its simple, robust yet ergonomic design. The basic construction required no screws or welded joints.

The design of the individual elements – such as the arms, bodies, fittings and joints – demonstrates exceptional originality and a design language that was far ahead of its time. Le Corbusier was an early admirer of the modern design of the Lampe Gras and incorporated the lights into his projects.

Today, the models are highly sought-after design classics and collector’s items worldwide, particularly in France, the USA and Japan. Bernard-Albin Gras’s visionary design has proved to be timeless.

A special feature of the Raw Copper version: the lampshade is supplied bare and untreated and has not yet developed a patina upon receipt. Natural oxidation only begins after unpacking. Air, humidity, temperature and other environmental factors determine how quickly the surface changes. Visible darkening of the copper may occur after as little as 14 days.

Over time, the lampshade develops its characteristic raw copper look and unique colour tones. As the patina depends on the specific environmental conditions, no two surfaces are exactly alike. This gives the Lamp Gras 323 XL a truly personal and vibrant character over time.
