Light bulb(s) not included
The timeless BL9 wall light in black brass/porcelain was designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best, a British designer who was heavily influenced by the Bauhaus school. It has been in continuous production since its inception and has remained true to its industrial roots and original design. Due to its high functionality, the Bestlite lamp was initially used in Royal Air Force departments. The Architects Journal described Bestlite as the first evidence of Bauhaus in the United Kingdom, drawing the attention of the design-conscious public to the lamp. Public demand for Bestlite lamps soon followed, and when Winston Churchill personally selected the Bestlite BL1 table lamp for his desk, Bestlite's cult status was assured.
Bestlite's design has remained true to its industrial roots and original design. The lights are on permanent display at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London.
The Bestlite lamp has been loved by architects, designers and design enthusiasts throughout its long history and has become a modern classic to this day.
OBS: This lamp contains genuine bone china, which means that the porcelain on the lamp is made from bone ash. This means that there may be small imperfections in the surfaces, as bone china is an organic material – but also that the lamp is an animal product.
