In 1863, he wrote about three men, Dr Samuel Fergusson, Joe and Richard Kennedy, who travelled across Africa in the book "Five Weeks in a Balloon" – a book that inspired Luigi Vittorio Cittadini to design the balloon-like "Around The World" lamp for UMAGE.
