Louis Poulsen launches the iconic PH 5 and PH 5 Mini in new monochrome colours
Louis Poulsen has just introduced the iconic PH 5 and PH 5 Mini pendant lights in four new monochrome colours, including Pale Pewter, Pale Blush, Burgundy and Dusty Indigo. These new colours add a modern and stylish update to the classic designs by Poul Henningsen, originally launched in 1958.
A design icon with timeless functionality
Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 pendant in response to the constant changes in the shape and size of incandescent bulbs. His goal was to create a lamp that could be used with any light source while providing a soft, comfortable and glare-free light. This was achieved through Henningsen's three-screen system, which ensures that the light is evenly distributed and comfortable for the eyes. The PH 5 is known for emitting a downward light that also illuminates the lamp's own frame, creating a soft and pleasant radiance of light from the centre of the pendant.
New colours, same classic beauty
The new monochrome colours Pale Pewter, Pale Blush, Burgundy and Dusty Indigo give the familiar PH 5 and PH 5 Mini pendants a modern twist. The colours are carefully selected to complement both modern and classic interiors and add an elegant touch to any room. Launched in 2017, the PH 5 Mini is a smaller version of the original PH 5 and has a top screen of approximately 30 centimetres in diameter. Its smaller size makes it ideal for smaller rooms or as a complement to the larger PH 5.
Scientific approach to light
Poul Henningsen had a scientific approach to lighting design. His three-screen system, which he invented in 1925, is based on the logarithmic spiral, which ensures an even distribution of light and eliminates glare. This makes the PH 5 and PH 5 Mini pendants ideal for lighting in the dining room, above the kitchen table or in any other room where a comfortable and functional light is needed.
A legacy of quality and design
Since their introduction, the PH 5 and PH 5 Mini have gained worldwide popularity and have become symbols of Danish design. Their ability to adapt to different light sources and interiors makes them timeless pieces that elevate any space. The new monochrome colours bring a freshness to the classic design, while retaining the functionality and aesthetic appeal that Henningsen originally strived for.
With the launch of these new colour variants, Louis Poulsen continues the tradition of combining function and form in a way that both celebrates the past and looks to the future. The new PH 5 and PH 5 Mini pendant lights are now available and ready to bring their iconic light to new homes around the world.
