It all started in 1939 when Holger Nielsen's wife wanted a smart waste storage solution for her newly opened hair salon. More precisely, it all began in 1932 when Holger Nielsen won a car, which he later traded for a metal press so he could make things for his home. Being the skilled blacksmith that he was, Holger fulfilled his wife's wish by creating what would later become an icon of Danish design: the
Vipp pedal bucket. What made this bucket special was its special mechanism that allowed it to be opened and closed with the foot. This was the start of a real design adventure that would later include furniture, kitchens and an entire hotel concept. Vipp is still a family-owned, independent Danish design company run by Holger's daughter, Jette Egelund, her two children Kasper and Sofie and 55 employees in Copenhagen.
The classic pedal bin is still manufactured today but has grown over the last eighty years to include a myriad of different versions, sizes and several color variants. While the pedal bin is still Vipp's signature product, the Danish brand also releases a host of other home accessories, all characterized by the same clean lines, simple Nordic shapes, and neutral color scheme that define Vipp's unique design language.
The many beautiful designs are now also available at Lampmasters.
